CLARISSA EXPLAINS IT ALL (1991-1994)
Everybody knows Melissa Joan Hart for her role in “Sabrina the Teenage Witch”, but the younger Melissa J.H. took part previously in this tv series from Nickelodeon. It describes the teen-Clarissa life with all the typical preadolescent concerns such as school, boys and pimples. The series was a novelty for the times: it was one of the few series in which the two protagonists don’t get engaged and it was the first Nickelodeon series to feature a female lead but it gains popularity among both boys and girls.

Tutti si ricordano di Melissa Joan Hart per la serie “Sabrina vita da strega”, ma prima la Hart aveva partecipato a questa serie TV di Nickelodeon che però non andò mai in onda in Italia. Descriveva la vita della teenager Clarissa, la sua famiglia e il suo migliore amico Sam con tutti i tipici problemi dell’adolescenza dalla scuola ai ragazzi ai brufoli. Era una novità per i tempi: fu una delle poche serie in cui i due protagonisti non finiscono insieme e la prima serie di Nickelodeon con una protagonista femminile e nonostante ciò ebbe successo ugualmente tra ragazzi e ragazze, contro le aspettative.
BEVERLY HILLS 90210 (1990-2000)
When you think about 90’s you think about Beverly Hills 90210. This popular telefilm, that lasts for 10 years and became known for frequent casting changes, can be considered as an anthology of 90’s style. It was the first real teen-drama series to which is due the succes of later teen series like Dawson’s Creek, Buffy, The O.C., One Tree Hill, Gossip Girls and many others. Epic.

Quando pensi agli anni novanta pensi a Beverly Hills 90210. Questo famosissimo telefilm che durò ben 10 anni tra l’avvicendamento di vari personaggi, può essere considerato come un’antologia dello stile degli anni ’90. E’ stata la prima vera serie teen-drama a cui si deve il successo di altre serie come Dawson’s Creek, Buffy, The O.C., One Tree Hill, Gossip Girls e molte altre venute dopo. Epico.
MY SO CALLED LIFE (1994-1995)
The tv teen-drama series starring Claire Danes and A.J. Langer lasts only one season due to low ratings. It dealt with important social issues like child abuse, homophobia, teenage alcoholism, homelessness, school violence and drug use but otherwise others tv-teen series at the time, in which these themes were resolved during the end of the episode, in “My so called life” these issues were part of the continuing storyline.

La serie televisiva che vedeva protagoniste Claire Danes e A.J. Langer e che non arrivò mai in Italia, durò solo una stagione a causa dei bassi ascolti. Trattava di temi sociali importanti tra cui l’abuso minorile, l’omofobia, l’alcolismo giovanile, il bullismo e l’uso di droghe, ma a differenza di altre serie del periodo, dove questi problemi venivano risolti nel giro di un episodio, queste tematiche facevano continuamente parte della trama.
SAVED BY THE BELL (1989-1993)
“Saved by the Bell” is a tv sitcom, retooled version of 1988 series “Good Morning, Miss Bliss” and it’s the story of students along with their principal at Bayside High School. The series dealt with the typical teen social issues, such as friendship, college and graduation, bullying and drug use. This made it a precursor of more recent shows such as “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air”, “Beverly Hills 90210” and others. Tiffani-Amber Thiessen became a sex-symbol and would later work in Beverly Hills 90210.

E’ la storia di un gruppo di studenti che frequentano la scuola Bayside High School e tratta dei tipici problemi da teenager come l’amicizia, il college, il diploma, il bullismo, la droga. E’ stato un precursore rispetto ad altre serie televisive come il Principe di Bel-Air o Beverly Hills 90210. Tiffani-Amber Thiessen divenne un sex-symbol e fu poi scritturata per Beverly Hills 90210.
SEX AND THE CITY (1998-2004)
Before we were haunted by the predictable films, Sex and the City was a great series which started in the last 90’s. One of the first example of chick lit on TV, it started as a true and cruel review about the everyday life of 4 middle-aged singles women based in Manhattan. It gains year by years more popularity and then you all know the story. We all were been dazzled by her great outfits, but what people don’t remember is that Sarah Jessica Parker had such a great style too before SATC.

Prima che fossimo assillati dai prevedibili film che ogni stupida fashionista adora senza aver mai visto un episodio della serie, Sex and the city era un telefilm innovativo che iniziò proprio alla fine degli anni ’90. Può essere considerato forse il primo esempio di chick lit in TV e parlava della vita quotidiana di 4 amiche single sulla trentina che vivevano a Manhattan. Inaspettatamente gli ascolti crebbero serie dopo serie e il resto della storia la sappiamo tutti. Tutti siamo stati catturati dagli incredibili outfits che Carrie sfoggia serie dopo serie, ma diciamo che Sarah Jessica Parker non se la cavava male nemmeno prima.
